Weald of Kent Charity Cup
Monday 22.5.06, Saturday 27.5.06 and Monday 29.5.06
Woodstock Park returned last Monday from an
end of season trip to Blackpool to play
Borden Village Reserves in the
Quarter final of the Weald of Kent Charity Cup. It was a jet lagged
performance one of their worst of the season but they were the stronger
side and eventually ran
out 3-1 winners with goals from Terry Smith,
Danny Vecchiolla and Adam Overton.
That set up a Semi Final tie away to Lydd
Town Reserves on Saturday and a much improved
performance saw them
cruise into a 3-0 first half lead with goals from Mick Rees, Danny
Vecchiolla
and James Ellis. A strong Lydd Reserve side were given a
lifeline when Wayne Cook handled on the
stroke of half time with the
home side converting the resulting penalty. Andy Faithful scored from
close range two minutes into the second period for 4-1 and the game was
just about over.
Woodstock relaxed a little too much from then on and
changing the side using a couple of
subs meant a late rally from the
home side could be on the cards. They did pull two goals
back for 4-3
but Woodstock held on without too much fuss to take their place in their
first ever cup final.
The Final was the morning of Bank Holiday
Monday back down at the excellent Lydd Town
ground for a clash with
Ashford Borough. Borough had lead Woodstock's County League Division Two
for all but the final week of the season when they ended up runners up
and promoted. They had
beaten Park comfortably twice in the league
scored a massive 73 goals and had only once all
season not scored in a
match. Woodstock were also playing their third game in of the week
and
their second in two days.
Ashford were clearly favourites and were
very confident on arrival at the ground but the
Woodstock
management team of Mick Rees and Alan Shardlow had a plan to curb their
free
scoring opponents which the players executed to perfection on what
was their best performance
of the season. Woodstock had the better of
the first half on chances created and in fact throughout
the whole game
the Sittingbourne sides keeper was only called upon to make one
difficult save
when he tipped a long range effort on to the bar. The
Ashford keeper was far the busier throughout
and this was because
Woodstock defended with such quality and organisation from front to
back
that the favourites were clearly frustrated.

With an hour gone and the game still at 0-0
Woodstock substituted full back Wayne Cook
for winger Dan Pinder and the
lively winger had an immediate impact when he was brought down
for a
penalty converted by the reliable Terry Smith. Danny Vecchiolla not for
the first time this
season scored direct from a corner moments later for
2-0 and Woodstock waited for a reaction
from Ashford that never
materialised. Smith, Overton and Pinder all brought the best out of the
keeper in the final ten minutes but they could not increase the score
and had to settle for a 2-0 win.

The Cup committee voted Woodstock's player

way he played and organised his defence against the Borough attack.
The Woodstock team asked Secretary Maurice Dunk to receive the cup after
which the celebrations
went on for the rest of the day.

Sporting Sittingbourne 1 Old Oak 4
The winners of Sundays clash between the two teams who play at Woodstock
were guaranteed runners up and promotion from division 2. Sporting
Sittingbourne had beaten Old Oak 1-0 in the first game of the season but Old
Oak had not lost a league game since early October so it was all set to be a
close encounter.
Old Oak play in the charity cup final next Sunday but there was no caution
in their play from start to end. Defender Richard Turner who will miss next
weeks final as he is away was a very committed player indeed. He never
scores many and had not found the net this season at all but he soon gave
Oak an early lead. Top scorer Terry Smith hit his 26th of the season to make
it 2-0 and Oak were at that stage coasting. Just before half time Sporting
got back into the match with a clever quickly taken free kick hitting the
net before the Oak defence were organised.
Al Johnson made it 3-1 soon after the restart and that man Turner popped up
at a corner to nod home his second of the match and the season for a good
4-1 victory.
Old Oak are hoping to make it a promotion and cup double Sunday when they
face old rivals Burnt Oak 2000 in the "battle of the Oaks" Medway Junior
Charity Cup Final at Chatham Town FC kick off 12.30.

Grosvenor 4 Old Oak 6
Old Oak kept their division two title chances
alive with an amazing come back at Grosvenor
in Sheerness on Sunday. After
taking a one nil lead through a Kevin Hopkinson penalty the visitors
had
a shocking ten minute spell in the middle of the first half when they were
simply all over the place.
They found themselves 4-1 down and it could
have been more. Two goals from leading scorer
Terry Smith reduced the
deficit to 4-3 by half time as they gradually got themselves
together.
In the second half the Sittingbourne team
bossed the game and two goals from
Roy Sams and another from Kevin Dunk
gave them a 6-4 win in what was a dramatic turn around.

Putlands Ath 2 Woodstock Park 2
Just like the previous week Park played with the wind and the slope in their
favour and could not really come to terms with the conditions which should
have been to their benefit. It was the home side that looked the better of
the two teams as they battled into the elements. On 25 minutes the home team
hit a purple patch which lasted for 10 devastating minutes.
Having a goal chalked off for offside was followed by a penalty in their
favour when Wayne Cook was judged to have committed a foul although he
clearly thought they he had got the ball. The penalty was deemed punishment
enough and the old war horse in the Woodstock goal Mark Rees on his 105th
appearance does what he does best by saving yet again. This cheered Cook up
no end. Two quick goals both very well taken gave the home side a 2-0
advantage but Woodstock are made of sterner stuff these days and for the
rest of the half they pressed to get back into the game with James Ellis
going close on two occasions. The long ball does not suit the Woodstock play
with diminutive strikers Ellis and Donovan looking like Ant and Dec up
against the home sides tall defenders. With 5 minutes left of the half
defender Peter Halls volleyed home a Danny Vecchiolla corner to give the
visitors at least some hope.
Just like the previous week the home team were confident that the hard part
had been done and that it was just a question of how many they could get to
increase their lead. Now, kicking against the wind suits the Woodstock style
better and within a couple of minutes of the restart they opened up Putlands
twice. On the second chance Sean Donovan's good shot was well saved by the
home keeper only for the ace predator and leading goals corer James Ellis to
turn the rebound home.
Player Manager Mick Rees marshalled the defence exceptionally well in the
second half and like the previous week the onslaught never happened. Only
one clear cut chance was carved out by the home team and a number of chances
went begging for the visitors with some slick passing in a much better
second half performance. James Ellis missed two chances he would normally
accept without problem and the visitors had to settle for a 2-2 draw that
really on the second half showing could have been a win. A game of two
halves as they say. The point would have taken the Sittingbourne side up to
3rd had the points not been lost by New Ash Greens withdrawal and with just
one league game left it looks like 5th or 6th is now the best they can do.
They do take a lot of heart from this season though as they were rock bottom
before Christmas following 8 straight defeats in league and cup. Woodstock's
final league game is at home to bottom side Platt Utd 22.4.06 @
2.45ko.
They are still in the Weald of Kent Charity Cup however and are waiting to
see who they will meet and when.

Pipers Fiat 2 Old Oak 2, (3-3) after extra time Old Oak won 3-2 on

It took a marathon match for Old Oak to get to the final of the Charity Cup,
twice they lead in the 90 minutes through John Spree and Al Johnson only for
the team from the lower division to peg them back.
Early in extra time Terry Smith again gave Oak the lead only to again be
pegged back immediately to 3-3.
Into Penalties then, Pipers Scored first which Kevin Hopkinson matched,
Pipers missed the second and Peter Halls blasted the Oak's second one wide,
Kevin Dunk hit the crossbar with the third which fortunately had also been
matched by Pipers, Terry Smith converted his but at 2-2 Pipers missed the
target, leaving the Sittingbourne sides skipper Roy Sams to convert the
final of the five for a 3-2 win.

UKP
0 Woodstock Park 2
The
home side took a trick from the Premiership when they decided to arrive on
the pitch late on Saturday although you could not be sure of the real
circumstances for the delay. Visitors Woodstock Park from one
mile up the road were not bothered but it was not the sort of tactic that
gets you off on the right foot with the match official.
On the
second pitch at UKP, Woodstock found themselves kicking down the slope with
a strong wind behind them and as expected the elements meant that they were
on the attack for most of the half. The home team decided to defend deep
and play the percentages and took quite a robust approach to thwarting the
visitors. Having got off on the wrong foot with the referee several decisions
went against them, which created a tetchy atmosphere. UKP had a goal ruled
out for offside but that apart they did nothing but defend during the first
period. Quite frankly it was an awful half with the Woodstock forwards
continually wayward in their shooting and delivery of the final pass. A half with
a mixture of throws and corners and many delays in the UKP final third and
the ball probably on the pitch for only 15 of the 45 minutes. Woodstock did
finally break the deadlock when the ever improving centre back Luke Simpson
scored from close range following a corner, his first goal for the Club,
but they should have made more of the advantage they had.
The
second half and everyone expected the roles to be reversed with the home
side pressing for an equaliser but in all honesty it never happened. It
will not go down as a good performance by the visitors but at least in the
second half they showed brief signs of their passing game. Like the first
half they produced most of the attacks but this time against the
elements the attacks were more structured. It was no surprise when they
doubled their lead then when a UKP defender put through his own net after a
sustained period of pressure and an excellent Terry Smith cross. It just
about summed up UKP's day for nothing seemed to go right for them.
In the
attacking third Woodstock most likely were missing the silky skills of
Vecchiolla who was not available this week but defensively they could not
really have had an easier time producing a clean sheet all season.
Goalkeeper Mark Rees only had one save to make of any note in the match and
that was a second half effort in error from his own full back Wayne Cook.

Woodstock
Park 1 Sutton Ath 2
In a
very evenly matched contest every bit as good as the earlier 1-1n draw
between these teams saw the home side edged out by the odd goal in three. Ever
present Peter Halls and Andy Wenzel were missing from the Woodstock line up
the former for work commitments and the latter as he had just become a Dad
for the first time. This led to a reshuffle and with two players turning up
ill it was even more changes to the formation and line up.
Luke
Simpson missed Halls most and an early raid saw him having to deal with a
two on one situation he made a solid challenge on the player in possession
which the referee correctly called a foul but some inspired refereeing
allowed play to go on and the second player scored when the ball rebounded
to him. James Ellis levelled with an excellent lob before half time
and the game looked likely to be heading for a 1-1.
A
second half mix up when both Woodstock full backs let the Sutton forward in
ade it 2-1 to the visitors and the remainder of the match was all about
Woodstock trying to equalise. With all subs used Richard King picked up an
injury meaning Woodstock were chasing the game last 20 minutes with just 10
fit men and they failed in all their attempts.
It has
been a bad week for the Sittingbourne side who from a poor start still had
a slim outside chance of promotion. The loss of these three points together
with the knowledge that New Ash Green withdrew robbing them of 4 more
points hard earnt when Woodstock were bottom and New Ash Green top has
blown their chances away. Last season they ended third from bottom but were
relegated when Snowdown withdrew and this season any outside chance of promotion
back to division one has been taken away by yet another team
withdrawing.
New Ash
Green led the table for the first half of the season and were the current
Kent Junior Cup holders and it is surprising they have folded during their
first season in the league. In fact if they had completed just one more
fixture then the 75% mark would have been reached and Woodstock would have
retained their points.

Third
from bottom Pembury have been a bit of a difficult team for Woodstock
to overcome this year they narrowly knocked the Sittingbourne side out of
the league cup earlier in the year and despite dominating the home league
game Park had struggled to win 1-0.
It was
the same Saturday when they travelled to Pembury. In all honesty the
visitors should have won this match by a mile but some woeful
finishing was the order of the day with several one on ones with the home
keeper being the main story. James Ellis was the main culprit but on two
occasions Park thought they should have had a penalty with one in
particular when Ellis seemed to be clearly brought down by the keeper.
From very early on it was clear the home side were playing for the draw
with a number of time wasting tactics but to Park it always seemed that it
was going to be one of those days.
Woodstock
keeper Mark Rees had little do but routine stuff in the game but he showed
his vast experience and concentration when he made a crucial stop in the
88th minute which would have been a complete injustice if it had gone in
had he not been on his toes. A very disappointing 0-0 was the final score
but it did at least move Woodstock up to 5th. Next week they take on third
placed Sutton Ath which if it lives up to the away 1-1 draw earlier in the

Woodstock
Park 2 Staplehurst 0
The
third place promotion hopeful team with the least number of points
dropped so far visited Woodstock Park Saturday with the home side looking
to avenge an early season 2-1 away defeat they thought had not been
justified.
After
impressing as a substitute three times in recent weeks Woodstock handed a
first start to new signing Luke Simpson and after a shaky first 10 minutes
he settled in to a good central defensive partnership with the ever
consistent Peter Halls. The first half and the visitors made all the
running and had the most of the play but Woodstock were defending well and
were coping with everything Staplehurst could throw at them. That said
Woodstock did not carve out a single chance in the half.
After
half time praise for their defensive efforts Woodstock manager Mick Rees
asked for a more attacking approach second half and backed it up by
throwing three forwards at the opposition from the restart. Basically it
was thought that Woodstock were giving the visitors far too much respect.
Fifteen
minutes into the second period and the bold approach paid off with one
of those slick passing moves that all coaches love. When the ball was
finally worked out to the left striker James Ellis beat the right full back
and cut inside. As the centre back came towards him he stood up one of
those golf type chips over the defender and keeper for late arriving
midfielder Andy Faithful to head firmly into the net. On the half
hour mark Terry Smith hit the goal of the season for 2-0 a 30 yard screamer
that hit the top right hand top corner of the net.
Woodstock
were well in control of the game by now but Staplehurst did rally and
have a right go at the home side during the last 15 minutes. This is only
Woodstock's 4th season and league and cup matches have only just topped the
100 mark. Veteran keeper Mark Rees is the first player to break the 100
appearances and he was going to make sure he was going to celebrate it by
keeping a clean sheet. Two first class saves at point blank range in the
closing minutes made sure he achieved his goal with his team being the
first to keep a clean sheet against Staplehurst in the league so far.

Andy Hopkinson. Ten minutes later and Old Oak were level Kevin Dunk hitting
a powerful shot into the top right hand corner of the net from the edge of

Lanes
End 4 Woodstock Park 2
This
game exploded into action with just 5 minutes on the clock when a dreadful
mix up in the visitors defence saw the home side take the lead. A lead that
lasted less than a minute because from the restart James Ellis twice stole
the ball off the home centre back to equalise with a low drive.
Two of
Woodstock's most influential midfielders did not make the trip to Lanes End
and on 10 minutes that figure had risen to 3 as Park had their first
player of the season sent off. The Woodstock Park player was attacked off
the ball but as so often happens in such cases the referee only saw him
retaliate. The ferocity of the attack had made the retaliation almost
something that anyone would do and as always seems to happen like this to a
player with a previously good record. The prospect of having to play
1 hour and 20 minutes of this game with 10 men was not helped by the
further depleted midfield. The dismissal also came at a time when they were
completely on top and looked like going on to a comfortable win. A woeful
back pass saw Woodstock fall behind again but the 10 rallied and with Rob
Warburton despite missing his other midfielders played the game of the
season prompting and probing for an equaliser. Again it did not take long
to come when he put through an exquisite ball for Richard King to finish.
2-2 at half time.
Terry
Smith did not make the second half because of injury and the reshuffled
side soon fell behind when his replacement completely misread the play and
played the Lanes End forward onside. The 10 played with a lot of
determination after that and put in a lot of effort but could not pull the
goal back despite throwing everyone forward and leaving just two men back.
The two did get caught out once with End making the score 4-2 which really
was not deserved.
It was
one of those days when hardly any decisions went Woodstock's way and even
at 4-2 down James Ellis volleyed a Warburton free kick into the net only
for the referee to rule it out for a push that nobody from either team saw
or understood. That incident just about summed up the day but the 10 had
put up a tremendous effort. Park are hoping to bounce back when the host
championship contenders Staplehurst at home next Saturday kick off 2.45pm.

An
in-form team in the shape of Otford Utd were Saturday's visitors and for

Two
deflected goals the first a Wayne Barlow free kick and the second following
a very slight touch by Richard King saw them go in 2-0 up at half
time, but in all honesty it could have been 3 or 4.
The
second half saw a vast improvement from the visitors but Park are a
resilient lot these days and despite Otford pulling one goal back they were
never going to let this one slip. They held on for a respectable 2-1 win

On a

rather than their normal passing game. Early on they did not do this the
Home side did and took a 2-0 lead because of it. Two free kicks one which
took a wicked deflection past Mark Rees against the run of play being the
visitors undoing.
A nasty
injury to a home team player then produced a break in play whilst an
ambulance was requested and when the game eventually restarted the referee
had reduced the time to 40 minutes each way because of the possibility of
fading light.
The
visitors were therefore the more urgent of the two teams to get going and
with not much left of the first half the home team seemed to be already
time wasting. Andy Faithful did manage however to pull a goal back from
close range before half time following good work by Danny Vecchiolla
and Terry Smith. The second half and Woodstock finally came to terms with
the Toblerone surface and the midfield got the ball to the front line much
quicker. James Ellis poached a second half hat-trick of identical goals to
put the Sittingbourne side 4-2 up and once he had been replaced Richard

Park
found themselves on an excellent playing surface which suits their quick
passing game and with orders to take the game seriously without any
showboating or show of disrespect to their opponents they played some
electric stuff. At half time the game was over as a contest with the score
7-0 in favour of the visitors. Two of their most experienced players Wayne
Cook and Andy Faithful were rested and replaced in the second half but the

scorers. All four attacking players scored hat-tricks, James Ellis, Richard

It was a struggle for the Sittingbourne team to field a side with injuries

they
were full of confidence. That was until two minutes in when they conceded a
really sloppy goal when they cleared once but failed to react quick enough
to the second. They did however then dig in and show some of the fighting
spirit of the last couple of months and it was no surprise when Danny
Vecchiolla equalised before half time.
The second half started like the first with Park giving away another sloppy
goal two minutes in and from then on it went from bad to worse. A few
decisions did not go Woodstock's way but the story of the second half was
really that they could not cope with the pace of the home forwards. The

Both teams seem to be suffering from not playing for over a month but it
was
no surprise when the home team who are placed second with games in hand,
woke up first to take an early 2-0 lead.
Visitors Woodstock gradually clawed their way back into the match with
James
Ellis pulling a goal back just before half time with a really good strike.
A
half time pep talk from the manager and Woodstock were a completely
different team in the second half and goals from Richard King and a second
from James Ellis completed the turn around from 2-0 down to 3-2 up. Having
put so much into their efforts to turn the game around Woodstock looked
very
tired and they conceded a late equaliser following some bad marking and
defensive play, down to lack of concentration.
With the minutes ticking away and with both teams seeming to settle for a
draw up popped veteran midfielder Rob Warburton with a 35 yard rocket to
grab all three points for the Sittingbourne side with a 4-3 win.
After
beating the team in second place Woodstock Park now face the leaders
Ashford
Borough next week when they make the trip to Ashford for a 2pm kick off.

Woodstocks youth team had not won in the league since the opening day of
the
season but they have carried on plugging away strengthening their side as
they go. It was very satisfying indeed when they at last won again on
Sunday
as the opponents were local rivals Milton Ath.
Mitchell Allen and Luke Faulkner were on target for Woodstock.

Oak kept their unbeaten run going but were disappointed not to take all
three points. The good news is that they have ace goal grabber Roy Sams
back
after a long injury and it was no surprise when he notched the goal that
earned Oak a point.
That is 3 goals in 3 games for Sams which is good news for the run in to
the
end of the season with Oak still going well in league and county cup.

Woodstock took their unbeaten run to six games with an exciting ending to
their visit to Guru Nanak in Gravesend. Player Manager Mick Rees returned
to
the team after missing last week but started himself on the bench to give
others a chance. Yet again the line up and tactics were changed but things
were not going well for the Sittingbourne side losing 1-0 at half time and
then going 2-0 down on the hour.
With 20 minutes left Rees took himself off the bench to inspire a huge turn
around in fortune for Park and within a couple of minutes Terry Smith
reduced the arrears followed by a James Ellis equaliser. Terry Smith capped
a fine personal performance when he grabbed his second an the winner just
before the end.
After the first 6 games Woodstock were 6 defeats and bottom and now they
have moved up to mid table following this win. The next game is away to
local rivals UKP on the 7.1.05 kick off 2pm.

A Terry Smith hat-trick kept Oak's unbeaten run going and moved them up to
2nd in the table. On a frozen pitch Oak did not fancy it much to start with
and found themselves 2-0 down at one point. Their first half performance in
all was pretty woeful with players not coming to terms with the tricky
surface.
As the pitch conditions improved so did the Oak and in the end they were
worthy winners.

Woodstock Park 1 UKP 1
With player manager Mick Rees and half the team missing it was a patched up
Woodstock side that took the field Saturday with a mixture of youth team
and
emergency signings and including three players on debut. Visitors from one
mile down the road UKP seemed to be struggling also with two emergency
signings on the day themselves.
A change of tactics and line up then for Woodstock who had to press long
serving attacking midfielder Rob Warburton into a very unfamiliar centre
back role. For the first ten minutes he struggled to find his feet but
after
that he did very well indeed. With limited attacking options Woodstock
surrendered a lot of the first half and the visitors made all the running
and played most of the better football. Just prior to half time they thought
they had taken the lead when a well struck shot from the edge of the box
found its way into the bottom corner of the net. Unfortunately they had a
player in an offside position inside the six yard box on that side of the
pitch who had become active when he attempted to connect with the shot.
The second half was a more even contest but still the better chances fell
to
UKP who were more comfortable than the home side in the attacking third of
the field. It was no surprise then when the visitors took the lead with a
well worked move finished by Sab Ahmed. Woodstock were level inside a
minute
though when centre back Peter Halls headed home a Terry Smith corner. More
resilience is now evident in the Woodstock side who lost their first 6
games
of the season but are now unbeaten in their last 5.
Smith did have a golden chance in the last minute but it fell on his weaker
right foot and he blazed over from 6 yards. A draw was just about a fair
result though although UKP might feel quite rightly a little unlucky.
Woodstock were to play bottom side Platt Utd next week but the fixtures
have
been amended. They could do with a few players coming back as they now have
a tricky looking visit to Guru Nanak in Gravesend instead.

Old Oak went to the Semi Final last year knocking out several teams from
higher divisions. They are at it again as they beat premier outfit Pentagon
in their 4th match in the competition on Sunday. They beat the same side at
the same stage last year. Two goals from Roy Sams his first of the season
after his return from injury one from Kevin Hopkinson and a single strike
from Rob Warburton gave them a comfortable 4-2 win.

Further evidence that Woodstock's U18's are steadily improving could be
seen
Sunday when they managed to hit 3 goals for the first time. Unfortunately
the home side Dover Ath hit 5 but the match was much closer than the score
line might suggest.

Playing against the elements things started well for Woodstock and when
Danny Vecchiolla curled an incredible shot in from distance at a difficult
angle on 20 minutes it was no more than they deserved. The remainder of the
half belonged to the visitors from Gravesend and within 10 minutes of the
goal Woodstock found themselves two one down and chasing shadows.
Manager Mick Rees gave an inspiring half time talk and promised to buy
everyone in the team a drink afterwards if they could turn around the
deficit in the second half. Terry Smith was the most thirsty as 3 minutes
into the half he used the elements and curled a goal in straight from a
corner to equalise. The same player gave the home side the lead as his
thirst increased. His second goal being the culmination of an excellent
team
build up. Smith took a couple of one two's was fouled on the edge of the
box
but did not go to ground and with the referee playing a good advantage he
entered the box and beat the keeper from eight yards.
Leading scorer James Ellis completed the win when he headed home a cross
from the outstanding Vecchiolla. Woodstock Park travel to Tenterden Town in
the Weald of Kent Charity Cup next Saturday kick off 1.30pm.

The Co-op 1 Old Oak 5
Only a small number of players play for both Oak and sister club Woodstock
Park these day's three that did this weekend scored all the goals in
Sunday's encounter in Sheerness against The Co-op. With confidence running
high after a good run of results midfielder Terry Smith scored a hat-trick
to go with the brace he got on Saturday and veteran Rob Warburton got his
tired Saturday legs off the Sunday bench to make it four. Goal of the game
though was down to tall rangey centre back Peter Halls. An excellent solo
effort following a long mazy run from his own half to complete a 5-1 win
that takes the Sittingbourne side up to third in the table.
Next week Oak are at home to Premier outfit Pentagon in the third round of
the Kent Junior Cup and Sunday's win was just the boost they needed.
Kent Youth Cup- Sunday 27.11.05
Woodstock Park U18 0 Crockenhill U18 1
Woodstock Park's U18'S battled hard in their county cup match but finally
went down 1-0 to visitors Crockenhill. The Sittingbourne side have been
struggling of late with injuries and players not being available but this
was a much improved performance.
The main problem facing the team though is the lack of goals with only six
scored in eleven games and half of those being scored by a striker not at
the moment available to them. Woodstock Park face a series of tricky away
games up until Christmas starting with Maidstone United next Sunday.
Woodstock Park being a FA Chartered Standard Club with a good ground and
facilities are looking for new players in several positions to play for
them
in the U18 Kent Youth League this season. Any player of the right age and
ability interested should ring Dave on 07834 703556 or Jim on 07800 671417

After their worst start to a season ever Woodstock are showing signs of
recovery. On the back of two 1-1 draws their first points of the season
they
at last managed a narrow victory for a first win.
Long serving player Andy Faithful in only his second game back since being
injured in August gave the home side the lead on twenty minutes when he
headed home a Terry Smith free kick. If nothing else Woodstock are now at
least hard to beat and veteran keeper Mark Rees was only bothered by
routine
stuff thanks to some outstanding defending by the team and in particular
central defenders Jon Wright and Peter Halls. Danny Vecchiolla has now
returned to the Club after almost a two year absence and his intelligent
midfield play carved out quite a few acceptable chances for the home side
all of which were not taken with James Ellis the main culprit in front of
goal.
The second half followed a similar pattern and ten minutes in a Vecchiolla
corner was met by the head of Faithful and only the foot of the post denied
him and the Sittingbourne side their second. Faithful had to be substituted
on the hour mark as like a number of Park's returning players he is not yet
up to full match fitness. A strangely comfortable 1-0 win being the
outcome.
Woodstock Park are at home to Guru Nanak from Gravesend in the league next
week with a 2pm kick off. They already know they are to be without a couple
of important players for the game but they will be hoping to shuffle the
pack and continue their mini revival and unbeaten run.

Woodstock Parks first ever youth team are finding the going tough in the
County league U18 South division and a lot more difficult than local
district U16 football that most of the players have progressed from. The
signs are that they will eventually come to terms with it and with two
seasons in this division in front of them they can only improve.
It was to their credit a very close encounter for most of Sunday's game
with
the score at 1-0 to the visitors for quite some time. Ross Bryant scored
for
the Sittingbourne side but it was not enough as they were edged out 2-1 by
visitors Dover Ath.

29.10.05 County League Div 2 East
Woodstock Park 1 New
Ash Green 1
19.2.05 last year was
the last time Woodstock won a competitive game and with that losing run
came relegation last season. A massive long term injury list of 9
players that sees little chance just yet of easing has meant an awful start
to this year as well 6 league games 6 defeats and bottom place. They can't
help thinking they have been cursed in some way.
To
field a side this week they had to borrow a player from their youth team,
emergency sign three new players, play a player still a few weeks off from
full fitness and bring back another from the middle of his holiday. Not
really a week to be playing league leaders New Ash Green who had played 6
won 6 and scored 26 goals to boot.
Woodstock
could not really get any lower in confidence but somehow manager Mick Rees
inspired a performance from them that was simply the best since last
Feb. They even overcame losing even more players to injury when two
did not make it to the interval with one Aaron Ripley suffering a
double fracture to his ankle. The bad luck just goes on. Park however,
carved out six very acceptable first half chances but none of
them could find their way past the brilliant visiting keeper Lukman
Oladipupo. Nobody could believe Woodstocks first half dominance which saw
their own keeper only having one real shot to deal with.
The
second half was very even by comparison but the visitors did show glimpses
of why they were top with some first class movement and passing. A headed
goal by Scott Reinke gave Green the lead and Woodstock were begining to
believe their first half good performance and not scoring during it was
going to haunt them.
For
once though conceding inspired the Sittingbourne side and Richard King
fired home a brilliant equaliser as they dominated the closing stages.
Ellis and King both had chances to actually win the game at the death. Park
would have settled for a point before the game had started but they came
off thinking that they had dropped two. Still with last Feb the last time
any points were won perhaps the curse has finally lifted.
For once Woodstock are looking forward to next week when they travel to
Dartford to play Sutton Ath.
BEKCFAL Div 2 East
Woodstock Park 0 Putlands Ath 3
The shock decision to relegate Park from Division One last season due to
Snowdowns withdrawal has sent the Club in a spin. The squad is now being
rebuilt with half of it now made up of new players drawn from local
football. The short term future does not look good for the team with new
coach John Ravenscroft and stand in manager Maurice Dunk seemingly having
their work cut out. Last week they went dow to new team Atcost in East
Peckham 3-1 and this week they lost at home to Putlands Ath 0-3.
The Club feel that they were a long way behind both sets of opponents and
what is more worrying they were both teams that would have caused fewer
problems to them last year.
2-0 down at half time the writing seemed to be on the wall but a good
attitude and spirit kept the score down to 3-0 in the second half. Of the
26
players used last year only 12 have resigned so it really is a rebuilding
job this year.
KCYFL U18 South
Woodstock Park U18 2 Whitstable Town U18 0
However, the long term future looks bright for the club though as their
first ever U18 youth team took to the field in their first ever competitive
fixture on Sunday. It was seemingly a daunting task as the team made up of
players fresh from U16 football took on last seasons league winners
Whitstable Town.
An excellent 2-0 win was a perfect way to start their league campaign and
with two season at this level in front of them things can only get better.
Brendan Lillis scored both the goals, the second a stunning left foot
volley
from almost 30 yards, sealing a good win.
