2002/2003 Match Reports
Report
from Our French Correspondent (Maurice)
Wednesday 30.4.03 MTSFL Senior Section
Old Oak 1 Rainham Sports 0
With still some doubt over their senior section status Oak put in a
dogged performance last Wednesday evening and an excellent late strike
from Charlie Almond gave them the 3 points required against the
improving Rainham Sports side who themselves are now out of danger.
Sunday 4.5.03 MTSFL Senior Section
Dixwell 2 Old Oak 2
Old Oak continued there move up the table on Sunday and with it they
took away any chance Dixwell had of ending up runners up. In fact Oak
were leading 2-1 with ten minutes to go thanks to a James Ellis brace.
The striker playing his last game this season prior to an operation
put paid to any doubt over Oaks senior section status. The
Sittingbourne side may have even pulled off a victory if they had
substitutes to cover injuries. Oak could now end up above half way in
the division with 4 matches left and 12 points available. Tonight
7.5.03 they are at Home to United Services and on Sunday 11.5.03 away
to Black Lion in a double header. They complete the season on
Wednesday 14.5.03 when they entertain champions in waiting Quested at
home.
Sunday 4.5.03 MTSFL Div 4
Old Oak Res 0 Borden Park Wanderers 1, Borden Park Wanderers 3 Old Oak
Reserves 1
Old Oak Res played neighbours Borden Park who also play at Woodstock
in an entertaining double header on Sunday. Borden Park pushing for
promotion were the more determined and picked up all six points
against their mid-table friends. The first game was a very close 1-0
and the second a 3-1 win for the promotion hopefuls. Roy Sams got the
Oaks consolation. Oaks Reserves have one game left when they take on
Roseneath at home on Sunday 18.5.03.
MTSFL Senior Section Sunday 13th April 2003
Palmerstone 1 Old Oak 4
Coming off the back of another blank Sunday last week making it 15
Sundays missed in all this season Oak caused a surprise when they won
away at high flying former leaders Palmerstone. Oak have only lost one
of their last five in a season that has only seen them play a sequence
of three games or more on a couple of occassions. A bare 11 and
reserve team goalkeeper Andy Hopkinson who did well deputising at the
last minute for the ill Mark Rees is hardly the best preparation but a
sparkling performance saw Andy Faithful > score the goal of the
season in the first half with a second half hat-trick from the deadly
James Ellis to see them through with the home sides Paul > Brown
netting the consolation.
> Oak are away to Spartac next Sunday and they will be looking for
maximum points to haul themselves away from the danger zone. The week
after the leagues computer has coughed again to give the Sittingbourne
side yet another blank week.
MTSFL Div 4 Sunday 13th April 2003
Deanwood 3 Old Oak Res 2 and Old Oak Res 3 Deanwood 0
Oaks Reserves with their keeper going last minute to the first team
operated a rota system to keep goal in this double fixture. Roy Sams
started in the first game which Oak went down 2-3. Sams still managed
to get one from the penalty spot with the other goal coming from James
Reynolds. In the second game Oak ran out 3-0 winners partnering
Reynolds (2) with Sams who this time scored the third goal from open
play.
Oaks reserves are away to Rainham Ath next week and like their first
team have a blank the following week.
British Energy Kent County League Division 2 East Saturday 22.3.03
Tyler Hill 2 Woodstock Park 2
The long awaited game that had been previously cancelled and abandoned
finally took place and it was Woodstocks last game of the season. The
mission for them now that they were already promoted was simple- win
and they could only lose the championship on goal difference and they
were 14 goals better off then their rivals who needed a point to earn
promotion.
It was a tense opening 10 minutes with both teams not wanting to make
an error but on 10 minutes Woodstock made the first mistake when a
simple headed clearance was missed leaving a simple finish for the
Hill striker. This signalled Woodstock's best period of the season
when they ripped into their unbeaten championship rivals. Aaron
Hayward was featuring prominently on the right wing as the visitors
created several chances. On 20 minutes Terry Smith missed a one on one
to level the scores but on 25 minutes there was no mistaking Richard
Kings headed equaliser from a Hayward cross. Smith again had a good
chance to put Woodstock in front which he missed but five minutes
before the break Andy Faithful hit a thundering 25 yarder which the
keeper had no chance. It looked like it was heading for a 2-1 interval
and it did but not before the drama of Woodstock conceding a penalty
in the last minute of the half. They need not worry as keeper Mark
Rees who is a bit of an expert on penalty saves duly obliged with
another trade Mark top draw save. If he guesses the right way he
usually keeps them out.
If the first half had belonged to Woodstock then the second was Tyler
Hills as they took a grip on the midfield and carved out several
chances. Whenever they got through they came up against the Woodstock
keeper who was in outstanding form. Rees made three top class saves
and it looked like the visitors were going to hold on for a dramatic
win.
With less than 10 minutes to go player manager Mick Rees who had not
missed a header all day was harshly penalised when he jumped to make a
routine headed clearance. His opponent did not seem to make any
attempt to leave the ground. The free kick was taken and when the ball
was recycled back into the box it cruelly deflected of the Woodstock
Managers head past brother Mark into the net. Mark had the shot
covered easily and quite frankly it was going to take a deflection or
something very special to beat him. Two brothers were not talking
after this one for quite some time as the match ended 2-2 with Tyler
Hill celebrating their promotion along with Woodstock. The game was a
physical one but everything within the rules of the game. The match
was well handled and a credit to the league, there was not a single
yellow or red card shown.
As for the championship Woodstock have completed their games and are 6
points clear of Tyler Hill. Hill have 3 games left and they need two
wins and a draw to overtake the Sittingbourne side. Woodstock will be
hoping local rivals Sheerness East can do them a favour next week when
they take on Tyler Hill. A win by East would certainly be welcome at
Woodstock Park!
British Energy Kent County Football League Division Two East
Sheerness East 1 Woodstock Park 2 - Saturday 8.3.03
Woodstock Park FC have been promoted to Division One in their first
season by winning at Sheerness East on Saturday, the only team able to
mathematically stop them from going up. Player Manager Mick Rees takes
all the credit as he has built a team in a short space of time that
has grown into a solid outfit from a side that started the season by
not being able to beat district teams in local cups.
Woodstock took the lead early in the first half when the prolific
James Ellis scored with a screamer to take his tally to 30 goals in 15
games, quite an achievement in itself. Keeper Mark Rees had no chance
with East's deflected equaliser bringing the sides level at half time.
It was always going to be a tough game as East had only lost twice all
season and one of those was at Woodstock. Woodstock were also missing
a few regulars and lost to injury their most improved player this year
Terry Smith.
It was therefore a patient and solid performance inspired by their
player manager that saw them through. The vastly experienced Richard
King has proven to be an able strike partner this year for the
prolific Ellis and it was fitting that he scored the winner with 10
minutes left. His experience was the key as he coolly slotted home a
well placed shot.
Woodstock can win the championship but it is all down to the last game
against rivals Tyler Hill whom they play on the 22.3.03. Hill have
four left including the game with Woodstock and are six points behind.
Woodstock need to beat Hill and hope that they drop at least a point
in their last three games. If Tyler Hill do not drop a point, which is
possible as they are the only unbeaten side in the division then it
could even go down to goal difference. At present Woodstocks is plus
51 Tyler Hill plus 37.
For now though it was celebrations all the way as the main objective
of promotion has been achieved.

United Services 3 Old Oak 4 - 9th March 2003
Down to the bare bones on Sunday Old Oak had to send out a patched up
team which included Secretary Maurice Dunk as one substitute and a
Rugby playing friend of one of the players Scott Crammond as an
emergency signing for a second sub.
The eleven fielded included several players carrying knocks and
several players having to play out of position. Oak were all at sea
and went in at half time 3-0 down.
With the wind and slight slope with them in the second half Oak
thought they had half a chance of getting back into the game and
player manager Mick Rees said as much in his half time team talk.
Once Graham Cloake volleyed the first one home the result strangely
never seemed in doubt. The second goal was scored by James Ellis who
pounced on a rebound following a strong Paul Notley shot. The third
was the pick of the bunch as Scott Crammond who had not played soccer
at any level since his school years came on for the injured Russ
Booth.
The Rugby man hit a screaming 25 yarder a foot off the ground into the
bottom corner of the net wearing a borrowed pair of boots! Jim Fraser
wrapped up the points with the fourth clean strike of the game with
Services not threatening the Oak goal at all in the second half.
Sat 15.2.03 British Energy Kent County League Division Two East
Lydd Town 1 Woodstock Park 5
Woodstock lost the services of skipper Mark Oldershaw and three other
influential players Rob Warburton, Danny Vecchiolla and Martin Taylor
and it was down to the bare bones of the squad for the tricky trip to
to 4th place Lydd this week. An early scare when Lydd took an early
lead which was cancelled out by an equaliser just before half time
from leading scorer James Ellis. Ellis was one on one with the keeper
who at first came out on top,the rebound however was dealt with by the
marksman who scored from an acute angle. Manager Mick Rees gave
another one of his half time talks that melts paint off the dressing
room walls. Last week it turned a 1-1 into a 5-1 win and the same
happened this week. The half time team talk will now be before the
game!! Winger Terry Smith who had a quiet first half burst into life
in the second setting up two more for Ellis to complete another
hat-trick. Richard King added a fourth and Smith himself grabbed the
fifth. Just two league games left now for Woodstock one win would
guarantee promotion and two would give them the championship.
Woodstock are without a game next week and the following week they are
at home in the 2nd round of the Weald of Kent Charity Cup to
Staplehurst. Woodstocks two week break from league action will give
the others chance to catch up and reduce the 9 point lead they now
have at the top.

Red Dog 1 Old Oak 0
The pitch at High Halstow resembled a large chocolate cake and anyone
wanting to watch a football match were going to be unlucky. In an ugly
game best forgot Red Dog sneaked a win on a pitch where standing up
was the most important thing on players minds. Putting any more than
two passes together took a huge effort. Dog broke the boredom and the
stalemate with 10 minutes left and although Oak piled on the pressure
they could not get an equaliser. Paul Notley hit a post for the
Sittingbourne side and Mark Rees made a couple of good saves towards
the end as Oak threw caution to the wind ending up with a back 1!
Medway Today Sunday Football League Division 4 Old Oak Reserves 2 Red
Dog Reserves 2 Despite last weeks comments by Sittingbourne Rangers
the Oak pitch responded well to a bit of TLC and dry weather and to
prove the point Oaks Reserves and Red Dogs Reserves fought out an
entertaining 2-2 draw. Paul Fookes gave Oak the lead to which the
visitors equalised. Kevin Dunk had a good oppurtunity to give Oak the
lead when Roy Sams was brought down in the box. Dunk missed from the
spot but made amends by giving them the lead soon after with a good
goal in open play. It looked like the Sittingbourne side were on for a
2-1 win but another penalty this time for the visitors in the last
minute levelled the match at 2-2.
Saturday 8th February 2003: British Energy Kent County Football
League Division 2 East
Woodstock Park 7 Betteshanger 1
A game of two halves saw Park open a six point lead at the top of the
division. James Ellis gave Park an early lead but the visitors
equalised in an even first half that ended at 1-1. Some stern words
from manager Mick Rees saw a better second half performance from
Woodstock and Ellis who was in good form added a second half hat-trick
to his first half strike. Further goals from Aaron Hayward, Terry
Smith and Danny Vecchiolla saw Park romp home 7-1. That's 64 league
goals this season in just 13 games and 84 in all competitions for the
free scoring Sittingbourne side who believe their goal difference
might be a key to the promotion they are seeking. Woodstock are away
to Lydd Town next week 2.45pm kick off. Despite a big win for
Woodstock in the home fixture they are wary of Lydd who have been in
the top four all season.
Sunday 9th February 2003: Medway Today Sunday Football League Senior
Section
Old Oak 5 Sittingbourne Rangers 2
The match that had been postponed three times finally got under way
and for the first time this season Oak fielded a side of reasonable
strength. Revenge was good for Oak who were dumped out of both cups by
their Sittingbourne rivals and because of so many postponements had
found themselves bottom of the table for months. Oak now have 11
points from 8 games and are clear of the bottom spot.
It was a good first half performance for the Oak with player manager
Mick Rees starting the ball rolling with a firm shot struck from the
edge of the box into the top left hand corner. Good wing play from
Terry Smith saw Andy faithful nod home a fine cross and a repeat
performance saw James Ellis give the same treatment to another Smith
cross. Ellis put Oak 4-0 up bringing his weekend tally to 6 until
Chris Brissenden pulled one back for Rangers just before half time.
The second half saw the playing conditions worsen and Rangers pull the
match back to 2-4 through Mark Windiatt. Paul Notley cancelled that
one out to leave the second half honours even but a 5-2 victory for
Oak by virtue of that first half blast. Oak are away to Red Dog next
week.
Sunday 9th February 2003: Medway Today Sunday Football League
Division 4
Old Oak Reserves 1 Burnt Oak 2000 3
Oaks reserves good run before Christmas started with a fine 3-1 away
win at Burnt Oak. That itself was a good game and so was Sunday's.
This time Oaks second string ended up losing by the same score 1-3. It
was an evenly balanced match that was level for quite some time but it
was a couple of mistakes and some missed chances that cost them the
day. Oak Reserves are at home to Red Dog Reserves next Sunday.
25th January 2003 British Energy Kent County League Division Two
East
University of Kent 1 Woodstock Park 0
It was top v bottom on Saturday and everything seemed a foregone
conclusion. Woodstock had not lost away in the league all season and
had scored more than any team in any division. UOK had not won a game
all season and had been beaten 9-0 earlier in the season by their
visitors. Woodstock are yet to learn that second time around in this
league often means facing a completely different team and that is what
happened Saturday.
The home side set their stall out from the start with a a back four a
sweeper in front a midfield four and just the lone striker. They
pretty much gave possesion to Woodstock who were unable to break them
down or convert the many chances that came their way.
Danny Vecchiolla was sent off early in the second half but still
Woodstock dominated proceedings switching to a 3-3-3 formation. In the
end they could not break down a stubborn defensive team and bad went
to worse when the students broke away on 80 minutes to grab the win.
Mark Rees saved the first effort and all credit to him as he had been
a spectator for most of the game. The follow up he could not stop and
the final whistle saw the bottom side celebrating as if they had won a
cup final.
Several cautions mostly for frustration and the sending off of
Vecchiolla did not deter Woodstock from awarding the referee their top
marks of the season. In fact he was probably man of the match. This
defeat could cost the Sittingbourne side the title and they need now
to win their last for league games beating Tyler Hill in that
sequence.
Woodstock take a break from league action this Saturday when they
entertain Staplehurst at Woodstock Park in the second round of The
Weald of Kent Charity Cup. kick off 2.00pm
26th January 2003 Medway Today Sunday Football League Senior Section
Old Oak 1 Palmerstone WMC 3
Old Oak's first league game since October took place at Woodstock Park
and it was like a first game of the season for them. A good number of
their players only play Sundays and the long break had told on their
fitness.
The first half was very even and when Terry Smith cancelled out
Palmerstones early lead it looked like an even match was going to
proceed. Just before half time player manager Mick Rees tripped a
Palmerstone forward in the box in a genuine attempt to get the ball. A
good decision by referee Martin Luxon allowed Rees to stay on the
pitch and brother Mark in goal duly obliged with his now customary
penalty save.
The 1-1 score went out of the window in the second half as Oaks poor
fitness allowed their visitors to take control. Some more good saves
by Mark Rees kept them at bay for a while but Liam Tydeman once of Oak
scored the all important second. Palmesrstone were well worth their
eventual 3-1 win and Oak need to discover their fitness again if they
are to salvage anything from the season.
Highlight of the second half saw referee Martin Luxon having to leave
the field with an injury and his assistant Roger Pieri take over for
the remainder of the match. Local rivals Sittingbourne Rangers will be
the visitors to Woodstock Park next Sunday kick off 10.30am
26th January 2003 Medway Today Sunday Football League Division 4
It was left to Old Oak's reserves to stop the weekend rot and they did
so eventually overcoming Scorpions 5-3 in a thrilling match in which
they were behind until the last 15 minutes. The visitors took an early
lead only for Roy Sams to equalise. The visitors took the lead again
only for James Reynolds to equalise for a 2-2 half time. The visitors
took the lead again in the second half but then a fantastic hat-trick
by young player Kieron Higginson saw the Oak second team home.
British Energy Kent County Football League Division Two East Tyler
Hill 1 Woodstock Park 1 (Abandoned after 50 minutes): 19th January 2003
The long awaited meeting finally took place between 1st and 2nd and
Danny Vecchiolla took just a minute to put leaders Woodstock Park in
front. Park were on top for most of the half in a physical but fair
contest. Just after the mid point stage of the half Woodstocks
midfielder Jimmy Fraser had to leave the field after picking up a gash
on the head. The Woodstock Physio patched him up but after returning
to the field he felt dazed and was eventually substituted. This was a
blow to the visitors for whom Fraser had been outstanding and during
the reshuffle the home side equalised.
The second half started very even until on 50 minutes the Hill centre
forward injured himself badly whilst committing a foul on Park's
keeper Mark Rees. The game was a tough one but in the main the
challenges were fair ones. Not a single booking had been made by the
referee in the 50 minutes of action. The referee abandoned the game as
he thought the light would fail once the ambulance had taken the
injured player to hospital. Woodstock were fuming as the game could
have restarted at about 3.20 and be all over about 4.00pm with the
weather at that time bright and sunny. The match and most likely the
destination of the championship will now be the subject of the league
arranging a replay which will most likely be the the final game of the
season. Hill are in cup action next week whilst Woodstock Park are
away to University of Kent, with kick off in Canterbury at 2.00pm. A
win would give Park a six point cushion.
Both Old Oaks away game at Spartac and their reserves home game with
Burnt Oak 2000 were postponed due to waterlogged pitches and both are
facing a fixture backlog.
British Energy Kent County Football League Division Two East:
Saturday 11th January 2003
New Romney 3 Woodstock Park 4
After a month of inactivity the last thing leaders Woodstock needed
was a difficult away fixture against a side they only edged out 2-1 in
the home fixture earlier in the season and that game only won with a
last minute winner. It was just like a first game of the season and
Woodstock soon found themselves a goal down. They were given a life
line when Aaron Hayward headed an equaliser just before half time.
Manager Mick Rees called for a higher tempo and better concentration
in the second half which to be fair they did control for long periods.
Top scorer James Ellis grabbed a brace to give Woodstock a 3-1
adavantage but New Romney hit back to bring the match to 3-2. A fourth
goal for Woodstock was scored by the impressive Danny Vecchiolla and
at 4-2 it seemed they were home and dry. A final twist, the use of all
three subs to counter the lack of fitness plus a lack of concentration
enabled the home side to pull back to 3-4 but with only minutes left
league leaders Woodstock held on for a fine win. Exciting for any
neutrals but 4-3's are not good for the Managers blood pressure and
nerves !
The only other game in this division saw Woodstocks biggest rivals
Tyler Hill win 3-0 at home to Tenterden, leaving them three points
behind Woodstock with a game in hand and the long awaited clash
between the sides next Saturday in Canterbury. Tyler Hill have dropped
the same amount of points as Woodstock but unlike the Sittingbourne
side Canterbury's Hill are unbeaten. A win for Woodstock next week in
this most important game of the season would be a giant step in the
right direction for their promotion hopes. The Woodstock players can
expect a very hard training session this Wednesday at the ground as
their manager was not impressed with the lack of fitness due to the
long lay off.
Medway Today Sunday Football League
Neither of Oaks teams played again this Sunday due to frozen pitches
and is now looking like a disaster season for them especially the
first team. All the stops were pulled out to get the games played this
week but to no avail. Nine games have now been postponed for the
senior side this year which is a club record and this together with
involvement in the national FA Sunday cup means they have only played
five league games the last of which was way back in October. Such is
the position the league have without request awarded them the game
they missed on the first day of the season when local rivals
Sittingbourne Rangers could not field a side. Not the best way to
finally move off the bottom of the league but in the circumstances it
is difficult to see how they will complete the season. The teams
record now reads played 6 won 2 drawn 2 lost 2 with 18 to play.
British Energy Kent County League Division 2 East- 14.12.02
Woodstock Park FC 12 Lydd Town 0
With Tyler Hill not playing and a two week break for Christmas looming
for this division, it made this an important game for Woodstock who
needed to improve their one goal lead at the top. Lydd Town a mid
table side who had not conceded many goals stood in Woodstock's way
and when the visitors turned up with a normal strength team Woodstock
thought they were in for a tricky game. Manager Mick Rees had spelt
out to his team the games importance and a full strength team quickly
responded with some of their best football of the season running in
four goals without reply inside the first twenty minutes to end the
contest. The half time message to the home side was to be ruthless and
they kept going the full 90 minutes running in another eight goals for
their biggest win of the season a 12-0 margin which doubled Lydds
goals against for the season. Tyler Hill will need to win their game
in hand 13-0 if they are to overcome Woodstock but the long awaited
second clash of the season will now take place on the 18.1.03 and this
is seen as the crucial game for the championship.
For the record Woodstock's three pronged strike force all scored
hat-tricks Richard King, James Ellis and Danny Vecchiolla. Two goals
from the ever improving young midfielder Terry Smith and a first goal
for the Club from recent signing Aaron Hayward completed the dozen.
Woodstock's next game is at home to Betteshanger Welfare on Saturday
4.1.03 kick off at Woodstock Park at 2.00pm.
British Energy Kent County League Division Two East -7.12.02
Tyler Hill could only manage a 2-2 draw with New Romney and Woodstock
Park took their chance to go to the top of the league on goal
difference from Hill with the same games played and that all important
game between them still pending. Woodstock's emphatic 5-2 home win
over Tenterden did the trick and an Own Goal plus goals from James
Ellis, Jim Fraser, Mark Oldershaw and a Mick Rees penalty were enough
to send them top. Next week Hill do not have a game and Woodstock can
go three points clear if they can overcome a tricky looking home tie
against Lydd Town kick off 2.00pm.
Medway Today Sunday Football League Division 4- 8.12.02
Oak's reserves were weakened this week and their good run stretching
back six weeks finally came to an end with a 1-2 home defeat by Five
Bells. Oak started brightly with Roy Sams giving them the lead. Sams
injured himself scoring the goal and could take no further part and
Oak's good run ended at that point. Bells equalised soon after to
leave the half time score at 1-1, a second half winner came at the mid
way point.
FA Sunday Cup 3rd Round- 8.12.02
In the 24 hours prior to this game Old Oak lost five regular players
for various reasons. Two players were called up on the day for only
their first and second games of the season and reserve team keeper
Andy Hopkinson dashed from the reserve game in the morning to make the
bench for the 1.00pm kick off at Chatham Town. Oak found their patched
up side no match for champions Quested and they crashed 0-7 in one of
the most embarrassing defeats in their 32 year history. They held out
and actually matched the champions for twenty minutes or so but as
soon as the first goal went in on 22minutes the game was over as a
contest. For the second year running this competition because of
cancellations to matches outside of their control has pretty much
ruined Oaks season and there is s definite question mark if entry is
worth it for future years. Oak now find themselves rooted to the
bottom of the senior section having only five points from the five
games played with their last league match being way back in October.

Woodstock warmed up for next weeks top of the table clash with Tyler
Hill with a 9-0 win against bottom side UOK. Richard King lead the way
with 4 goals and Danny Vecchiolla with 3 with single strikes for Terry
Smith and RobertWarburton. Woodstock are two points behind Tyler Hill
with the same games played and the big clash is this coming Saturday
at Tyler Hill kick off 2pm. Woodstock are hoping to be at full
strength for their most important game to date.

Huntsman 0 Old Oak Reserves 5
Old Oaks reserves game away at Huntsman went ahead and after a bad
start to the season they now have a settled team that is begining to
play some good football. The results seem to be improvimg each week.
Striker Kevin Dunk scored his second hat-trick of the season, two
goals in the first twenty minutes putting his team on the way. His
hat-trick was completed in the second half at which point he lost
fellow striker Roy Sams to injury, young midfielder Kieron Higginson
moved up alongside him and grabbed two for himself to complete the
easy win.
16/11/02 British Energy Kent County League Eastern Division 2 Cup
Woodstock Park 1 Kennington 2
Woodstock lost at home in the league cup to Kennington in a game
they really should have won comfortably. They are just happy that
prolific goalscorer James Ellis will be back in two weeks time which
will hopefully put them back on track. Richard King had given Woodstock
an early lead and they looked like adding to it throughout with shots
hitting the post and bar and various others that went close. Football
can be a cruel game and Craig Fox and Paul Carter struck twice in the
last ten minutes to give the visitors a late victory. Woodstock also
lost top spot as Tyler Hill thumped basement side Univerity of Kent 7-1.
Both teams have now played the same amount of games and Hill are two
points clear. Woodstock are at home in the league this week to the
students 2.00pm kick off, they are hoping to win to set up the big game
with Tyler Hill the following week 30.11.02.
17/11/02 Medway Today Sunday Football League Division 4
Scorpions 1 Old Oak Reserves 3
Oaks reserves kept up their recent good run with another away win
this time at Scorpions. Two goals from Roy Sams and another from Paul
Fookes sealed the match the highlight of which has to be the home teams
single goal. Scorpions were awarded a penalty which keeper Andy
Hopkinson saved well only to see the follow up shot trickle through his
legs with all his team mates laughing. Next Sunday morning Oaks reserves
are away to Huntsman.
17/11/02 FA Sunday Cup Round 2
Old Oak 1 Toby 1
Oak won 4-3 on penalties after extra time. The twice postponed match
finally went ahead with the FA granting permission for the game to be
staged at Woodstock Park. Toby had declined to have the game switched to
their ground because it was simply not playable.
The Essex side who have won the Essex Sunday Corinthian league four
times in the last five years should have been no match for Oak, who's
season has started badly with them finding themselves in the bottom two
of the Medway League. Oak were also missing all their regular forwards
and so pressed player manager Mick Rees into service as an emergency
striker.
Toby took the lead on 35 minutes from Brian Kingston but Oak clawed
their way back into the game on 50 minutes when Rees scored with a shot
that went in off both posts. The game went into extra time the highlight
of which was an Andy Faithful screamer with two minutes left that came
back off the bar.
Penalties were to decide it and Oak usually do quite well with these
thanks to the evergreen veteran Mark Rees in goal. The Oak keeper saved
the first penalty but Oaks Paul Edwards saw his first one saved as well.
John Emmerson and Matt Ball put away penalties two and three but Toby
were equal to those. Mark Rees saved Toby's fourth penalty but Oak's
Danny Chaney blazed their fourth one over the bar.
Toby scored their fith and Trevor White levelled to make it 3-3 and
sudden death. Mark Rees pulled off a third marvellous save for Toby's
sixth and that left long serving Robert Warburton the job of putting the
Oak in the third round which he duly did. Mark Rees saving 3 out of 6
was the real hero. Into the last 32 for the first time and to their luck
Oak have drawn the only other Kent side left in, Quested the reigning
champs from their own division. The match kicks of at 1.00pm on the
1.12.02 at Chatham Town FC. Oak have never beaten Quested but have
notched up one or two draws against them so it might be good tactics to
play for penalties from the off! Ok have no game next week so they can
hopefully get theur squad fit for the big game.

WITH NO GAME THIS WEEK WOODSTOCK PARK THOUGHT THEY WOULD LOSE TOP SPOT
TO RIVALS TYLER HILL. THE MUCH IMPROVED KENNINGTON HOWEVER HELD HILL
TO A 1-1 DRAW LEAVING WOODSTOCK STILL TOP BY ONE POINT. HILL HAVE
ANOTHER CHANCE TO GO TOP THIS WEEK AS WOODSTOCK PARK ARE AT HOME TO
KENNINGTON IN THE EASTERN LEAGUE CUP KICK OFF 2.00PM AT WOODSTOCK PARK
FA SUNDAY CUP ROUND TWO: 10th NOVEMBER 2002
OLD OAK's GAME WITH TOBY FROM ESSEX WAS AGAIN POSTPONED FOR THE SECOND
WEEK RUNNING AND OAK ARE WAITING TO HEAR IF TOBY WILL BE INVOKING THE
FA RULE ALLOWING NEXT WEEKS GAME TO TAKE PLACE AT THEIR GROUND ROMFORD
FC. THE CANCELLATIONS ARE STARTING TO PLAY HAVOCK WITH OAKS DOMESTIC
FIXTURES AND THEY WOULD BE GRATEFUL OF PLAYING THE GAME ANYWHERE.
MEDWAY TODAY SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION 4: 10th NOVEMBER 2002
OAKS RESERVES WERE THE ONLY TEAM FROM THE CLUB TO PLAY THIS WEEKEND
AND THINGS ARE DEFINATLY LOOKING UP FOR THEM NOW WITH A REASONABLY
SETTLED TEAM. THERE IS ALSO EVIDENCE THAT THE STRIKE PARTNERSHIP OF
THE EXPERIENCED ROY SAMS AND THEY YOUTHFUL KEVIN DUNK IS STARTING TO
LOOK GOOD.
OAKS RESERVES ARE A YOUNG SIDE IMPROVING ALL THE TIME. LAST WEEKS 1-1
WITH CRICKETERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A VICTORY AND WOULD HAVE BEEN IF SAMS
HAD NOT MISSED A PENALTY. IN THE RETURN FIXTURE WITH CRICKETERS THIS
WEEK OAK WERE AGAIN AWARDED A PENALTY. THIS TIME SAMS HANDED THE JOB
TO PARTNER DUNK WHO MADE NO MISTAKE. SAMS THEN MADE IT TWO FOLLOWING
UP ON A DUNK SHOT THAT HIT THE CROSSBAR. SAMS WENT ON TO SCORE HIS
SECOND AND OAKS THIRD IN THIS IMPRESSIVE 3-0 AWAY WIN. ROY THE VILLAIN
LAST WEEK WAS ROY THE HERO THIS WEEK.
BRITISH ENERGY KENT COUNT FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST 2.11.02
Betteshanger 0 Woodstock Park 5
Woodstock bounced back from last weeks shock home defeat and won away
at Betteshanger to go two points clear at the top of the table. Three
key players came back and Woodstock do seem to travel well!
Their third away league game which has produced three wins 19 goals
for and 1 against. The 5-0 win at Betteshanger was just the response
manager Mick Rees had asked for.
Richard King grabbed a hat-trick to add to single strikes from Ben
Arnold and Jimmy Fraser. Rivals Tyler Hill have two games in hand on
Woodstcock and they should have chance to catch up as Woodstock have
no game this coming Saturday and are at home on the 16.11.02 to
Kennington in the Eastern League Cup. The big game in this division of
the season will be Woodstocks clash with Tyler Hill on the 30.11.02.
MEDWAY TODAY SUNDAY LEAGUE SENIOR SECTION 3.11.02
Old Oaks FA Sunday Cup game with Toby from Essex was a victim of a
waterlogged pitch at Faversham Town and the revised match will now
take place this coming Sunday 3.00pm kick off again at Faversham.
Old Oak's league home game with Sheerness East is therefore postponed.
MEDWAY TODAY SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION 4
Old Oaks Reserves resisted the temptation to add idle first teamers to
their squad for their match with Cricketers which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The reserves are defending much better these days but one lapse in
concentration allowed the visitors to head an early lead. Paul Fookes
equalised for Oak with a well struck free kick before half time.
The second half saw Oak improve and they should really have gone on
and won the match Roy Sams missed a penalty late on which would have
sealed it.
Oak visit Cricketers next week in the reverse fixture and they are
hoping that the game is equally as good as Sundays which was very well
handled by local referee Martin Luxon.
Kent County League Division Two East: 26/10/02
Woodstock Parks biggest win of the season was a thumping 9-0 league
win away at Kennington last month and although they were short of one
or two key people they thought they would be ok for a win this week in
the reverse fixture to keep them joint top with Tyler Hill.
The big shock was that they crashed to their biggest defeat of the
season a 1-6 home defeat to a completely different Kennington side for
whom only two players survived from the previous match. The game was
all over in twenty minutes as Wratten helped himself to 4 goals in
reply to Russell Booths opener for Woodstock.
The visitors were in complete control of the game from start to end
and they added two more to their first half tally. Woodstock's only
good fortune was that local rivals Sheerness East whom they beat last
week did them a favour by holding Tyler Hill to a goal less draw. Hill
do not have a game this week so Woodstock can go two points clear if
they can win at Betteshanger this coming Saturday 2.30pm kick off.
Vast improvements in particular in defence will be required if they
are to win this tricky looking away fixture.
Woodstock are looking for at least one more defender of the right
standard to join their squad anyone interested can call Maurice on
07774 654912 or email maurice.dunk@oldoakfc.co.uk
or turn up at their Club night and training 7.30pm at Woodstock on
Wednesday nights.

Old Oak's completely depleted team visited champions Quested on Sunday
and it simply was not a contest. Short of at least 6 regulars Oak had
to rely reserves and an emergency signing to complete the squad. Oak
opened the scoring through Darren Parkinson and then the floodgates
opened with a 7-1 battering from the Q's. Highlight of the match was a
brilliant penalty save by Oaks Mark Rees from Danny Kedwell, but being
5-1 up at the break with the wind behind them a full strength Quested
team are a match for anyone. Oak need to get at least 5 players back
from injury this week as they play Romford champion side Toby in the
national FA Sunday Cup 2nd Round. Toby have won the Romford league
three times in the last four seasons and are fed by a good youth set
up and four Saturday teams. The action gets underway at 3.00pm at
Faversham Town with Oak very much the underdogs.
Medway Today Sunday Football League Division 4: 27/10/02
A miserable weekend for the club was compounded when Oaks Reserves put
in a spirited performance before going down 1-0 at home to Medway
Leisure. Despite all their problems the Reserves played with a good
spirit and once first team players return they will be in a better
position. An awkward match with the wind spoiling what could have been
a decent match was very well handled by local referee Roger Pieri.
BRITISH ENERGY KENT COUNTY FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST
Saturday 19th October 2002: Woodstock Park FC 3 Sheerness East 0
Woodstock welcomed back 5 players to the fold and from a bare 11 last
week they had a full squad with 5 substitutes for the first time for
three weeks. It was second versus third in the local derby and East
were unbeaten in the league up until Sat. Woodstock lost defender Jaye
Cook on the half hour mark for a professional foul and East could only
thump the resulting penalty against a post. Playing with 10 men for an
hour made Woodstock's 3-0 victory a good one and Ellis brought his
tally to 13 for the season with two more and returning from injury
Richard King scoring a long range effort after coming on as a late
substitute. Woodstock went back to joint top with Canterbury outfit
Tyler Hill but the more pleasing for them is the 5 point gap that has
now opened between those two and the chasing clubs.
MEDWAY TODAY SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE SENIOR SECTION
Sunday 20th October 2002: Old Oak 0 Lloyds Sports & Social 1
A very boring low key affair with only one shot on target from either
side. The one that was on target went in for the visitors and Oaks up
and down season continues. They just can't seem to put two results
together and they continue to lose games they expect to get something
from. Even the normally prolific James Ellis had a quite game and you
could forgive any neutrals from going home before half time in this
very dull affair.

Sunday 20th October 2002: 4 Burnt Oak 2000 1 Old Oak Res. 3
Oak Reserves have had more than their fair share of problems fielding
sides in recent weeks but they put in a really good performance this
week at Burnt Oak coming away well worth their 3-1 victory. Two goals
from Kevin Dunk, one a header from a corner and the second a one on
one with the keeper did the trick with a third added by sub Keith
Hinkley.
Kent Sunday Premier Cup Round 5 replay, 24th February 2002
The first team produced an almost mirror image of the week before's
performance except this time they got past Ramsfield from Tunbridge
Wells and into the quarter final on the 10.3.02 against fellow Medway
team Burnt Oak. The same player James Ellis scored another excellent
goal again with 30 minutes on the clock. Oak held out this time and
when the one main chance came for Ramsfield in the dying minutes again
like last week, this time Mark Rees Oaks veteran keeper pulled off a
magnificent save to send them through with the slim 1-0 margin. The
save made all the more remarkable as the Oak keeper had little to do
during the match but his experience and concentration came up trumps.
